Container Water Point

Water-Points can be established in any country, where there is no public tap-water-system available for the people.
The  C o n t a i n e r - S o l u t i o n  is a compromise, in order to reduce construction costs in countries or areas, where construction material is more expensive than a 20 feet container. (for example in South Sudan in Upper Nile states).

Supply from water source

The basic rule is, "The better the quality of water from the water source - the better the drinking water". But many times, there is not much choice - and one has to accept what is available.

Intake-filter in the river

On each step of the way, we need to take care, to get always the best possible quality of the water for filtering. So we are not taking the water directly from the river bank, but at least 5 to 15m away from the  river bank, and not from the ground - but the intake filter will float just under the water-surface.

The next option after the Container-Solution could be the option to use the constrution of the high platform for the drinking water tanks as the building for the Water Point. The size of this building is planed 5x8m in order to save in the investment. This building offers enough space to also store new jerry cans and new 1000 liter tanks for selling or for delivering drinking water.

The Water Point has to be lifted a little bit from the ground level and the terrain around it is to be arranged downhill, in order that even at heavy rain fall, the Water Point under the shade is always dry.

The purpose of the pre-tanks is to use them for sedimentation. In most cases for coagulation (flocculation) ALUMINIUM-SULFAT is used, which is quite expensive and even harmful for human health. We in GAIA are using the natural coagulant  M O R I N G A,  which is locally availabe and works perfectly in short time.

If there is a possibility / if these are available - to apply such PVC / PE Tanks like you see on the project, they can be used as pre-tanks for clearing the water before filtering and also to store for short time the drinking water there. But is recommenable to use at least 20.000 litres to 24.000 litre tanks.

Purpose of the pre-tanks

The 4 pre-tanks are for the purpose of coagulation and sediementation of the raw-water before filtering. GAIA will use MORINGA seeds as coagulant. After filtering, with the presure, which is used for filtering - the water will be pumped up to the two tanks on the erected platform 3 meter high. From there, it is provided to the taps. If high demand is, an electric pump will build up the pressure in the taps for more delivery speed.

On the first stage with one set of double-filter the capacity of such Water Point is up to 60.000 litres per day, when the filtering process is provided 24 hours a day.

Here you can see the top view of the Water Point with the big concrete tanks.  Two of the tanks are used for pre-clearing the river-water with the coagulant MORINGA, which works as good as the expensive Aluminium-Sulfit.  Each of the tanks has 100.000 litres of capacity with a diameter of 5,5 meters. Using the concrete tanks, which are under ground, we can also use the rain-water from the big roof.  The third tank which is for the drinking water, this tank should be raised about 3 meters above the ground, also with 80.000 to 100.000 liters.

Generator and pump house

The generator and pump house should be away some distance from the main building, in order to keep the noice of the generator and the main pump away from the people. The suction parameter of a pump are always limited - even though - this pump is a self-priming pump. The pushing power of the pump is much better, therefore this pump has to be near the water source.

Public tap-side

This is the side, wher the public can come and take or buy the water for take away with their jerrycans. Inside will be water meters to count the taken water per litres.

River-water or use water taps

On this side are taps prepare where unfiltered but pre-treated water from the pre-tanks can be taken for domestic use, animals or garden.

Inside the Water Point

Inside the main building is the ULTRA-FILTRATION with the double-filter, and the taps for filling jerrycans and bigger taks for delivery.

Inside the Water Point must also be a room, where spareparts, or other presious items can be locked, or which can also serve as an office. The Water Point is planed with space to store new jerrycans for selling and also for preparing for delivery. As well as 1000 liter drinking-water containers can be stored in the building.
